About
The court was 100 cubits long and 50 wide, fenced by linen hangings 5 cubits high on 60 pillars with bronze sockets and silver hooks and fillets. The only entrance was a 20-cubit screen of blue, purple, scarlet and fine linen on the east side.
How sure are we?
- Textually stated
The court measured 100 × 50 cubits with hangings 5 cubits high.
Stated directly in the text.
Exodus 27:18
- Strongly supported
The pillars stood at even 5-cubit intervals.
Follows from 20 pillars per 100-cubit side and 10 per 50-cubit end, though exactly how the corners were counted is debated. Here each corner pillar is counted once, on a long side.
Alternatives: Corner pillars counted on both sides (pinwheel counting); Pillars spaced by bays rather than by posts
- Plausible
The tent stood in the western half of the court, with the altar in the eastern half.
The text orders the objects from the gate inward but gives no coordinates; the placement here follows a common reconstruction.
Scripture
