About
Forty-eight upright boards, each 10 cubits long and 1.5 wide, stood in silver sockets on the north, south and west sides, held by gold-covered bars. The east side was closed by an embroidered screen on five pillars. Over the frame lay four coverings: linen worked with cherubim, goats' hair, rams' skins dyed red and tachash skins. Select the parts below, or use Layers to peel the coverings away.
How sure are we?
- Textually stated
Each board was 10 cubits tall and 1.5 cubits wide; 20 boards on each long side.
Stated directly in the text.
Exodus 26:16 · Exodus 26:18
- Strongly supported
The tent's interior was 30 cubits long, 10 wide and 10 high.
Derived from the board counts (20 × 1.5 = 30); the 10-cubit width depends on how the corner boards and board thickness are read.
Alternatives: A smaller tent of about 20 × 6 to 21 × 8 cubits with overlapping boards (R. E. Friedman)
- Textually stated
The entrance faced east and the Most Holy Place lay at the west end.
The court's gate and the screen are on the east ('toward the sunrise'), the six boards on the west.
