About
The east side of the tent had no boards. It was closed by a screen of needlework on five pillars of acacia overlaid with gold, whose capitals and bands were gold, hanging on gold hooks. Unlike the veil's silver sockets, these five stood in bronze.
How sure are we?
- Textually stated
The door screen hung on gold hooks from five gold-covered pillars in bronze sockets.
Stated directly in the text.
Exodus 26:37 · Exodus 36:38
- Plausible
The screen was embroidered with bands and floral borders, without cherubim.
The door screen is 'embroiderer's work' while the veil and linen curtains are 'skillful work' with cherubim; the pattern itself is an artistic choice.
Exodus 26:36 · Exodus 26:31
- Textually stated
Only the priests passed through this screen; they went into the first room continually to carry out their service.
Hebrews describes the priests going into the first tent continually; Numbers gives the priesthood to Aaron and his sons and bars anyone else who comes near.
Hebrews 9:6 · Numbers 18:7
