What happens in this chapter
Chronicles gives the place before the plan: Solomon builds on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem, at the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, where the LORD had appeared to David. Work starts on the second day of the second month of his fourth year, and the measurements follow in cubits 'after the first measure': sixty by twenty for the house, and a porch twenty cubits across with a height given as a hundred and twenty, overlaid inside with gold. The most holy place is twenty cubits square, covered with six hundred talents of fine gold, with gold nails and two cherubim whose wings reach from wall to wall. Then come the veil of blue, purple, crimson and fine linen with cherubim worked on it, and two pillars before the house, Jachin and Boaz, thirty-five cubits high.
What the lab shows, and where to look
Solomon's Temple lab starts this chapter outside, at Mount Moriah. The threshing-floor site is textual; the shape of the hill and the city around it are reconstruction, and the card notes that only Chronicles links the site with Abraham's 'land of Moriah'. Go to The porch next: the lab draws it thirty cubits high, level with the house, which is neither the Hebrew 120 nor the 20 of some ancient versions, and it marks the height as speculative. Inside, The veil hangs just behind the open doors, a way of showing both Kings' doors and Chronicles' veil. Temples Side by Side sets Solomon's house beside the others, and Jerusalem Through the Ages has the threshing floor of Araunah in David's city.

Questions people ask
How tall was the porch of Solomon's Temple?
The Hebrew of 2 Chronicles 3:4, followed by KJV and the Chinese Union Version, says a hundred and twenty cubits, four times the height of the house: a tower over 50 m high. The Alexandrian manuscript of the Greek and the Arabic version read twenty, and Kings gives no height at all. Keil and Delitzsch judge the 120 corrupt but cannot say whether 20 or 30 is right; the lab draws thirty, level with the house, and marks that height as speculative, not as either reading.
Why does Kings say one thing and Chronicles another?
Chronicles was written after the exile, drawing on Kings and other sources, and several figures differ: the pillars are eighteen cubits in Kings and thirty-five in Chronicles, the Sea holds 2,000 baths or 3,000, and only Chronicles gives the porch a height. Some differences are best explained as copying slips in Hebrew numbers; others may be different ways of counting, such as both pillars together, or the Sea filled to the brim. Both translations keep the differences as they stand.
Is Mount Moriah where Abraham offered Isaac?
Genesis 22:2 sends Abraham to 'the land of Moriah', to a mountain God would show him; 2 Chronicles 3:1 is the only verse that names Mount Moriah as the Temple site. Reading them as the same place is an old and widely held tradition, but the text does not say so outright, and the lab marks it as plausible.
