How sure can we be?
- Textually stated
David gave Solomon a written pattern of the house, its rooms and furnishings.
Stated in 1 Chronicles 28:11–19.
- Speculative
The lab lowers the ceiling to 20 cubits under the 30-cubit roof, leaving a 10-cubit space above.
The house was 30 cubits high but the inner sanctuary only 20. The text does not say how the difference was made up: a lower ceiling with an upper room (compare 'the upper chambers' of 1 Chronicles 28:11 and 2 Chronicles 3:9), or a floor raised by steps.
