About
Twenty pillars stood on each long side and ten on each end. The hangings hung from silver hooks; the pillars were bound with silver bands (or joined by silver rods) and their capitals overlaid with silver. All the pegs of the tabernacle and of the court were bronze, and the text mentions their cords.
How sure are we?
- Textually stated
The court had 60 pillars with bronze sockets and silver hooks and bands.
Stated directly in the text (20 + 20 + 10 + 10).
Exodus 27:10–12
- Plausible
The silver 'fillets' were bands around each pillar near the top.
The Hebrew (chashuqim) may mean bands or connecting rods between pillars. With bands and no rods, the lab lets the hangings sag a little between the hooks.
Alternatives: Silver rods joining pillar to pillar
- Plausible
Each pillar was guyed by cords to bronze pegs inside and outside the fence.
Pegs and cords are mentioned for the court; how they were rigged is not described.
