Follow the Greek names of the Septuagint, the oldest translation
Held by Josephus (with small changes), most older translations; Revelation 21's foundation stones share eight of the names
For
- The Greek translators worked over two thousand years ago, far closer to the words' use than any modern reader.
Against
- The Greek names were themselves loose: smaragdos covered several green stones, and the Greek puts "onyx" for the twelfth stone and "jasper" for the sixth.
