South Galatia: Pisidian Antioch, Iconium, Lystra and Derbe
Held by William Ramsay, who laid its groundwork in the 1890s, with Zahn and Renan before him (Berkhof)
For
- Paul usually names the places of his churches by their Roman provinces, and these cities lay in the province of Galatia.
- Acts tells how these churches were founded (Acts 13–14); no record tells of churches in the north.
- Barnabas, who was with Paul only on the first journey, is named in the letter as someone the readers know.
Against
- "Foolish Galatians" (Galatians 3:1) reads most naturally as the ethnic Galatians, not Phrygians and Lycaonians of the province.
