  1. Through the ages

The 3D lab at this stop: David

    Stop 1 of 7

    David

This is the small hilltop town David took. The Temple Mount above is still a threshing floor.

6 And the king and his men went to Jerusalem unto the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land: which spake unto David, saying, Except thou take away the blind and the lame, thou shalt not come in hither: thinking, David cannot come in hither. 7 Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion: the same is the city of David. 8 And David said on that day, Whosoever getteth up to the gutter, and smiteth the Jebusites, and the lame and the blind, that are hated of David’s soul, he shall be chief and captain. Wherefore they said, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house. 9 So David dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built round about from Millo and inward.

    2 Samuel 5:6–9

    Read 2 Samuel 5:6–9; 2 Samuel 24:18–25

  2. The 3D lab at this stop: Solomon

    Stop 2 of 7

    Solomon

Solomon has built the Temple on the threshing floor, with his palace below it. The Temple is the same model as in the Solomon's Temple lab, at its real size.

Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD at Jerusalem in mount Moriah, where the Lord appeared unto David his father, in the place that David had prepared in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.

    2 Chronicles 3:1

    Read 2 Chronicles 3:1; 1 Kings 6:1–2; 1 Kings 7:1–8

  3. The 3D lab at this stop: Hezekiah

    Stop 3 of 7

    Hezekiah

Now Hezekiah's city has spread over the Western Hill, behind a new wall. The blue line is his tunnel, cut through the rock from the Gihon spring to the Pool of Siloam.

And the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made a pool, and a conduit, and brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

    2 Kings 20:20

    Read 2 Kings 20:20; 2 Chronicles 32:2–5; Isaiah 22:9–11

  4. The 3D lab at this stop: Return

    Stop 4 of 7

    Return

Babylon burned the city in 586 BC. Those who came back rebuilt a smaller Temple, and Nehemiah walled a much smaller city.

Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do ye see it now? is it not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing?

    Haggai 2:3

    Read 2 Kings 25:8–10; Ezra 3:12; Nehemiah 6:15

  5. The 3D lab at this stop: Herod

    Stop 5 of 7

    Herod

This is Herod's Jerusalem. The great platform holds the Temple; the Antonia guards its north-west corner, and Herod's palace stands on the far hill.

1 And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here! 2 And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

    Mark 13:1–2

    Read John 2:20; Mark 13:1–2; Luke 21:5–6

  6. The 3D lab at this stop: Holy Week

    Stop 6 of 7

    Holy Week

Now Passover, about AD 30. The Third Wall has gone: it came ten years later. The gold markers follow Jesus' last week, from the Mount of Olives to the tomb.

Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.

    Hebrews 13:12

    Read Mark 11:1–11; John 19:17–20; Hebrews 13:12

  7. The 3D lab at this stop: Today

    Stop 7 of 7

    Today

Today. The Old City walls are Ottoman, from the 1530s; the Dome of the Rock stands on Herod's platform. These blocks are simplified.

12 Walk about Zion, and go round about her: tell the towers thereof. 13 Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell it to the generation following.

    Psalm 48:12–13

    Read Psalm 48:12–13; Psalm 122:2–4
