Key facts

  • The stories are in English, with English narration on every page; this sheet is in English and Chinese for the adults.
  • Joseph follows Genesis 37, 39–47 and 50:15–21.
  • Joshua follows Joshua 1–6, 21:43–45 and 23–24.
  • The stories retell these chapters simply; they are not a Bible translation.
  • Each book can be downloaded as a PDF to read together or print.
  • In class or at home: read one story, then open the Bible to the same chapter and read a few verses together.

Key verses

But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
Genesis 50:20 · King James Version
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
Joshua 1:9 · King James Version

Talk about it

  1. Joseph told his brothers, “Ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good.” How could he say that?
  2. God told Joshua again and again to be strong and courageous. When do you need to hear that?
  3. Which picture in the book would you change, and why?

How sure can we be?

The Bible says
  • The events follow the chapters of Genesis and Joshua listed above.
Our reconstruction
  • The wording is a simple retelling for children, not Scripture itself.
  • Faces, clothes, colours and places in the pictures are the illustrator's choices.
  • The narration is the English text read by an offline computer voice, not a human narrator.
Still debated
  • Details the Bible does not give, such as what Joseph's robe looked like, are shown one way among several.
